Develop your technical career as part of our Physics Technician Team as the department continues to evolve and grow. You will be working in a highly engaging environment as part of a collaborative team. You will be supported with training and development for you to grow into this role and enable you to progress within this area.

About you

With a scientific background you will likely have a degree in Physics, but this isn’t essential. What is fundamental is a combination of a practical mind-set, a passion for supporting students and being highly organised. If you have experience in supporting or delivering teaching or training, or of demonstrating experiments in a higher education setting this would be ideal. We’ll also be looking for:

  • An ability to organise and prioritise workload to meet required deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with a broad range of audience.
  • How you demonstrate collaboration with both your close team and other colleagues.
  • Experience in health and safety compliance, including writing risk assessment and COSHH, would be an advantage.

About the role

You will be providing technical support, advice and guidance in the undergraduate teaching laboratory, with a primary focus on undergrad year one and year two Physics lab classes, as well as assisting with some outreach activities within the laboratory. Alongside setting up and dismantling student experiments and projects, you will also be engaging with students to support them to achieve their learning objectives and good H&S practice.

You will be working as part of our technical team that supports undergraduate and post graduate teaching across three teaching lab spaces and research across multiple building facilities. In this collaborative environment you will be organising daily experiments as well as planning for future semesters with the academic staff. An important part of your role will be ensuring good stock, equipment checks and audits, as well as carrying out and maintaining records of annual portable appliance testing (PAT) in research areas and offices.
