The successful candidate will be specialized in quantitative theoretical-physical modeling and computational physics, with applications in non-linear dynamical systems. We are looking for an internationally outstanding scientist with a proven record in original research, procurement of external funding, and with a strong publication record in the area of computational physics and theoretical modeling. We are particularly interested in previous research expertise in the areas of climate physics, physics of oceans and the atmosphere, or other related areas in non-linear dynamics. The successful candidate will be keen to engage in collaborations with other groups at the Institute of Physics & Astronomy, as well as institutes working in the context of environmental science in the wider Potsdam area. 

The new professor will teach undergraduate and advanced students in theoretical physics and supervise final theses in BSc/MSc programs. At the MSc level, she/he is expected to substantially engage in teaching (in English) for the MSc course “Climate Physics” and the new degree program “Climate, Earth, Water, Sustainability (ClEWS)”. Teaching of physics modules at the BSc level and for teaching degrees is generally conducted in German.

The following application requirements for professors must be documented in accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and a particular ability for scientific and scholarly work, typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive competences in science management and additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a research associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural research institution, or scholarly activity in the private sector or in another social field, whether in Germany or abroad. The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 40 BbgHG.
