The Senior Product Manager is part of the Content & Platform Management team and is responsible for ensuring that the technical development roadmap delivers the maximum benefit for IOP Publishing from its academic journals and books produced in JATS and BITS XML. The Senior Product Manager represent the voice of the customer within IOP Publishing. They work closely with their Agile delivery team to build the right functionality in a timely manner, transforming the high-level vision of the Content Architect into detailed requirements. They work closely with other delivery teams, a broad range of stakeholders and external integration partners.

The role is responsible for managing the development roadmap for the Agile development team, prioritizing stakeholder requirements, managing technical health of the platform and communicating progress across the business. They keep up to date with developments in the publishing industry, so they can drive forward the continual improvement of our content and content services.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, IOP Publishing is currently remote working.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Work closely with stakeholders and senior management to create a product that fits the company portfolio.
  • Define the product vision, and deliver value to users, working with stakeholders and customers.
  • Contribute to the effective working of the Agile Content Team, together with the Capability Lead and the Digital Delivery Lead.  
  • Prioritise conflicting requirements in the roadmap from across the business
  • Collaborate with other Product Owners/Managers across IOP Publishing to share knowledge and ensure alignment with wider business goals
  • Ensures the product remains viable & fit-for-purpose, including from the perspectives of security, maintainability, recoverability & ongoing technology cost control.

About you

Successful applicants will have:

  • Three years’ experience as a Product Manager/Owner.
  • Experience of being responsible for roadmaps with shared dependencies that require cross-team collaboration.
  • Business analysis skills including capturing business/systems requirements.
  • Data-driven approach to decision making, utilising customer feedback and insights as well as business metrics to make decisions.
  • Good stakeholder management with ability to coach, influence and negotiate.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience of STM Publishing, JATS, BITS, Marklogic XSLT, XQuery a strong advantage
  • Experience of Agile software development tools such as Atlassian JIRA or equivalent is beneficial, as is an understanding of Agile framework experience.
