We have two exciting opportunities for Editorial Assistants to join our Publishing team in central Bristol – one on a permanent basis, and one on a fixed-term contract for six months.

We are looking for organized and efficient team players to join our high-performing peer-review teams and play a vital role in ensuring excellent customer service to our authors. Responsible for the administration of the publishing process, the successful candidates will follow set working procedures to ensure manuscripts are processed accurately and promptly in order to maintain an excellent level of customer service.

Excellent author/referee service contributes to the attraction and retention of top authors; this is critical to the future success of IOP’s journal business. As the primary point of contact for authors and referees, Editorial Assistants are in the front line in terms of delivering this service.

Through the administration of multiple journal titles, Editorial Assistants drive articles through the publication process from submission to publication and beyond, working closely with other peer-review and production staff.

Happy to work independently as well as within a team, you’ll be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and also be adaptable and quick to learn. With a proactive approach to work, you’ll have an eye for detail in order to work to very high standards of accuracy when managing manuscripts and in written correspondence.

About you

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A good general education, ideally degree educated or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in customer service will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience of an administrative/office environment will be an advantage.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail, with ability to learn new computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organisational, time and task management skills; methodical in approach.
  • No prior knowledge of physics or publishing is necessary for this role, as full training will be provided.
