Job advert description

We have an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Assistant to join our Publishing team on a full-time, permanent basis.

Job summary

We are looking for an organized and efficient team player to join our partner management and peer-review teams and play a vital role in ensuring excellent customer service to our authors. This role will shepherd articles through the publication process and support the internal team managing IOPP’s society partner relationships. The successful candidate will follow set working procedures to ensure manuscripts are processed accurately and promptly in order to maintain an excellent level of customer service and provide reports and data as needed to ensure we meet partner requirements.

Excellent author/referee service contributes to the attraction and retention of top authors; this is critical to the future success of IOP’s journal business. As the primary point of contact for authors and referees, Editorial Assistants are in the front line in terms of delivering this service.

Through the administration of multiple journal titles, Editorial Assistants drive articles through the publication process from submission to publication and beyond, working closely with other peer-review and production staff.

The Editorial Assistant will also support partner Publishers through preparation of reports relevant to their titles and partnerships as well as complete ad hoc projects as assigned.

Happy to work independently as well as within a team, you’ll be able to demonstrate excellent organizational skills and also be adaptable and quick to learn. With a proactive approach to work, you’ll have an eye for detail in order to work to very high standards of accuracy when managing manuscripts and in written correspondence.

About you

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A good general education, ideally degree educated or equivalent.
  • Pervious experience in customer service will be an advantage.
  • Previous experience of an administrative/office environment will be an advantage.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail, with ability to learn new computer skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organisational, time and task management skills; methodical in approach.
  • Knowledge of or interest in STM Publishing and desire to develop knowledge of the business and industry through personal learning opportunities is desirable.

No prior knowledge of physics or publishing is necessary for this role, and full training will be provided.

About the benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer employees a comprehensive benefits package including an excellent pension scheme, discretionary annual bonus scheme, private medical insurance, life assurance and generous annual leave, and a range of flexible benefits including childcare vouchers and gym membership. We also have a subsidized café, which is a popular, sociable spot for meetings and lunch.
