The PRISMA Detector Laboratory at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany) invites applications for a position as Detector Physicist (m/f/d).

The Cluster of Excellence PRISMA+ addresses the basic questions about the nature of the fundamental building blocks of matter and their importance for the physics of the universe.

It consists of renowned research groups that work primarily in the areas of astroparticle, high energy and hadron physics, nuclear chemistry as well as precision physics with ultra-cold neutrons and ion traps.

One of the key initiatives of the Cluster is the PRISMA Detector Laboratory, providing expertise and infrastructure for the development, construction and testing of state-of-the-art particle detectors, with a particular focus on tracking detectors and time projection chambers, light sensors, fast electronics and scintillator and fluorescence detectors.

For the new Center for Fundamental Physics currently under construction, we seek a physicist with significant hardware experience and good managerial skills to plan, commission, and operate an irradiation facility with neutrons, gamma-rays, and X-rays, a xenon liquefaction and purification facility for liquid xenon experiments, and to support the detector test beam facility at the MAMI electron accelerator. We look for a versatile person deeply interested in the development of detectors, who will work closely in an international, collaborative environment with physicist colleagues, engineers, and technicians at the detector laboratory and within the participating institutes of the Excellence Cluster. An important part of this position consists of advising and supporting detector laboratory users.

A PhD in experimental particle, astroparticle, or nuclear physics and adjacent fields is required. Experience with test beams or noble liquid detectors is desired.

Salary and benefits are commensurate with public service (E 13 TV-L). The contract is initially limited until 31 December 2025, with the possibility of a future extension.
