The Department of Physics at City University of Hong Kong was officially launched on 1 July 2017, which builds on the excellent tradition of the physics faculty in the former Department of Physics and Materials Science. In the 2014 Research Assessment Exercise conducted by the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong, CityU’s physics ranked 2nd amongst all eight universities in Hong Kong. 

The Department of Physics aspires to become a leading physics department in the Asia-Pacific region. At present, the department’s research focuses on the following thematic areas:

  • Computational physics and theory.
  • Spectroscopy and imaging.
  • Low-dimensional materials.
  • Soft matter and biophysics.
  • Atomic, molecular, and optical physics.

Applications are sought in the broad research themes outlined above, especially in experimental physics. Candidates with different levels of experience are welcome, and the appointment will be made at a rank commensurate with the qualifications and experience. Potential candidates in underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply. The posts are substantiation-track positions.

Duties

Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and conduct cutting-edge research.

Requirements

A PhD in physics or related disciplines, with a strong research record and promising teaching ability.

Salary and conditions of service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
