About Elekta

Elekta is a human care company pioneering significant innovations and clinical solutions for treating cancer and brain disorders. The company develops sophisticated, state-of-the-art tools and treatment planning systems for radiation therapy, radiosurgery and brachytherapy, as well as workflow enhancing software systems across the spectrum of cancer care. Stretching the boundaries of science and technology, providing intelligent and resource-efficient solutions that offer confidence to both healthcare providers and patients, Elekta aims to improve, prolong and even save patient lives. Today, Elekta solutions in oncology and neurosurgery are used in more than 6000 hospitals worldwide.

The System Physics team is responsible for physics aspects of linear accelerator-based solutions within the engineering organization of Elekta’s Linac Business Line, including system engineering responsibilities for quality assurance and set-to-work.

The successful applicant for this Senior Physicist – QA position will play a key role in supporting the evolution of Elekta’s linear accelerator quality assurance solutions. The role involves the provision of physics input to design specifications, test methodologies, performing experiments and investigations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards. Occasionally, the position will also require involvement with production and field activities. The focus of the role is to support especially the engineering development and implementation of AQUA, Elekta’s integrated and automated QA management solution.

In this role, the Senior-Physicist – QA will be based in Crawley but will work closely with a number of stakeholders globally, acting as the Agile Product Owner for a software engineering development team that is based in Toronto, Canada; therefore a degree of flexibility in the working pattern will be expected, in order to enable some overlap with a different time zone.

The role will require considerable knowledge of Physics QA of image-guided radiotherapy systems and clinical physics workflows, with expertise in radiation physics and dosimetry, linac commissioning and acceptance, QA equipment and test methods, and experience of relevant software applications. Ability to demonstrate technical leadership will be a requisite for the position. The role will also require an excellent understanding of the principles of engineering design and verification, as well as experience of working in a process-oriented and regulated environment. A key requirement for this role is the ability to prioritize tasks within a team, ensuring that the work is completed to the necessary standard of quality. Experience of software application development and testing would be a distinctive advantage, as would familiarity with LEAN-Agile practices.

In this role, the successful applicant will be expected to interact successfully with multi-disciplinary teams in various global locations, therefore a collaborative and adaptable working style will be necessary. The work will offer interaction with clinics, research institutions and commercial organizations inside and outside of the UK, therefore requiring the ability to communicate professionally and effectively. Excellent planning and organizational skills, as well as a strong sense of accountability when working as part of a team, are also essential for this role.

Candidates should have at least a degree in physics, radiation physics, medical physics, or closely related discipline, with evidence of experience of radiotherapy physics QA either in a research, industrial or clinical environment. Postgraduate and/or clinical qualifications would be desirable.
