TRIUMF is Canada’s particle accelerator centre, and one of the world’s leading laboratories for particle and nuclear physics and accelerator-based science. We are an international centre for discovery and innovation, advancing fundamental, applied, and interdisciplinary research for science, medicine, and business.

We’re passionate about accelerating discovery and innovation to improve lives and build a better world. Equity, diversity, and inclusion are integral to excellence and enhance our ability to create knowledge and opportunity for all. Together, we are committed to building an inclusive culture that encourages, supports, and celebrates the voices of our employees, students, partners, and the people and communities we serve.

The Physical Sciences’ Theory Department engages in forefront research in subatomic physics, that provides guidance for the TRIUMF experimental program, and is a centre of activity for the broader Canadian subatomic theory community. The research interests within the Theory Department include ab initio nuclear theory, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental symmetries, particle phenomenology, neutrino physics and quantum information.

We are currently accepting applications for a tenure-track Research Scientist to join the Theory department and become actively involved in the targeted fields of theoretical nuclear physics. In this role you will have the opportunity to engage in forefront research, develop proposals, obtain research support from national and international funding agencies and publish results in pre-eminent scientific journals. You will be expected to keep abreast of the advancements in the field of theoretical physics and act as an expert for TRIUMF experimenters active in projects at rare-isotope beam facilities ISAC and ARIEL and provide guidance for future directions. Other expected responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students and postdocs.
  • Taking an active role in the organization of workshops, and participating in a variety of TRIUMF activities or events.
  • Participating in local seminars, workshops and schools and representing TRIUMF at international conferences and meetings.

Nuclear theorists with expertise in many-body theory, nuclear astrophysics and tests of fundamental symmetries would thrive in this role. Applicants for this position must possess:

  • A PhD in theoretical nuclear physics or the equivalent.
  • A broad knowledge of theoretical physics tools, methods and literature.
  • An outstanding record of publications and public presentations.
