Job purpose

Research integrity is a cornerstone of the academic publishing process: ensuring that the content we publish conforms to the highest ethical standards is therefore vital to IOP Publishing. The Research Integrity Officer’s (RIO) role is to contribute to the quality, reliability, and trustworthiness of IOP Publishing’s content by managing allegations of publication misconduct and correcting the scientific record. The RIO addresses allegations of misconduct promptly and consistently, in line with industry guidelines, owning and managing the majority of cases to conclusion, with support from the Research Integrity and Inclusion Manager (RIIM). The RIO will support the RIIM in their goal to prevent and tackle emerging research integrity challenges, and will work with cross-functional teams across the business to ensure goals and objectives are met and promoted.

Key job accountabilities include:

  • Manage the research integrity case load.
  • Provide support and training on research integrity to staff in the Publishing department.
  • Implement change projects related to research integrity.

About you

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • Extensive experience in an editorial role within journals publishing – required.
  • Demonstrable understanding of research integrity problems affecting the STM Publishing market – required.
  • Working knowledge of copyright/permissions and intellectual property management – desirable.
  • Demonstrable data-driven approach to decision making – required.
  • Experienced user of relevant software and tools (e.g. ScholarOne, iThenticate) – required.
  • Extensive experience of COPE workflows and guidelines – desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable and experienced having difficult conversations with stakeholders.
  • Good time management skills, including the ability to manage an unpredictable and varied workload.
  • Able to prioritise quickly and effectively based on incoming information, managing short-, medium- and long-term demands.
