Job advert description

IOP Publishing is seeking a motivated project manager to drive delivery of our open science projects on a full-time, permanent basis.

We are committed to supporting wider adoption of open practices across the physical sciences and we call this approach ‘open physics’. The role of the Project Manager – Open Physics is to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery of projects that introduce valuable new insights, products or services associated with our open physics programme.

Open physics projects span teams and departments across the business. This key, cross-functional role owns delivery of the projects from initial concept to completion/implementation, ensuring that all relevant stakeholders are kept informed and up-to-date on progress, that deadlines are transparent and met, and that budgets are adhered to. The post-holder will also play a central role in coordinating the management of knowledge related to open science across the organisation.

We are keen to hear from project managers with past experience in the scientific, publishing or technology sectors and we are confident the successful applicant will enjoy making a central contribution to this strategically crucial area of our work.

Key job accountabilities include

  • Own the delivery of all open physics projects for the business.
  • Ensure all stakeholders are engaged and kept up-to-date on progress.
  • Act as advocate for Open Science within the business.

About you

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • Prince II or equivalent project management qualification (required).
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (desired).
  • Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt (desired).
  • Demonstrable understanding of the STM Publishing market (desired).
  • Demonstrable understanding of key open science issues (desired).
  • Demonstrable data-driven approach to decision making.
  • Expert user of all relevant analytical and reporting tools.
  • Excellent communicator, face to face and written.
  • Exceptional influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent change management and prioritisation skills.

About the benefits

In addition to a competitive salary, we offer employees a comprehensive benefits package including an excellent pension scheme, discretionary annual bonus scheme, private medical insurance, life assurance and generous annual leave, and a range of flexible benefits including cycle to work and gym membership. We also have a subsidised café which is a popular, sociable spot for meetings and lunch.

Our modern and contemporary offices are based in the thriving city centre of Bristol, a stone’s throw away from Temple Meads train station, and within walking distance of Cabot Circus shopping centre, and numerous cafés and restaurants. Named on more than one occasion as the best city in the UK to live in, Bristol is a cosmopolitan and creative city boasting a historic harbour, internationally renowned cultural institutions and home to world-class festivals and events.
