Postdoctoral Researcher for Development of MHz X-ray Microscopy (f/m/d)

European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

The Single Particles, Clusters and Biomolecules and Serial femtosecond crystallography (SPB/SFX) group of the European XFEL Facility is developing and constructing one of six scientific instruments. Within recently acquired internal R&D grant MHz X-ray Microscopy we are searching for a Postdoctoral researcher for development of MHz X-ray microscopy (f/m/d).

The position

• contribution to the development of XFEL X-ray microscopy, particularly for the data processing and visualization pipeline
• collaboration with external partner laboratories on hardware and software integration
• exploration of novel approaches for modelling of dynamic phenomena, especially in fluids, and comparison with experimental data

Requirements

• PhD in experimental, theoretical or computational physics or related discipline
• knowledge and experience in scientific computing and programming languages, especially Python
• ability to conduct independent work and research in collaborative environment
• highly developed communication skills and willingness to work in a diverse team of international scientists, engineers and technicians
• strong self motivation for conducting research in the challenging environment of a large international research facility
