We invite applications for postdoctoral research positions in experimental and theoretical Astroparticle Physics at the Gran Sasso Science Institute.

The successful candidates will join the groups that includes faculty members, postdocs and students currently involved in the study of cosmic radiations either on the experimental or theoretical side (space and ground based experiments, R&D for future missions,  particle acceleration and transport in the universe, and their implications for cosmic-ray physics, gamma and neutrino astronomy).

At GSSI the fellows will experience an exciting atmosphere with scientists also involved in other areas such as underground physics, gravitational waves and multi-messenger astronomy.  Part of the activities will also be carried on in the external facilities of the nearby INFN-LNGS laboratories and might also be in other research institutions collaborating with GSSI on specific projects.

The appointment has a duration of two years, preferably starting in the Fall of 2021.

The applications must be submitted to GSSI, only through the online application platform: https://applications.gssi.it/postdoc/

A PhD in physics or astronomy is required. For the experimental positions experience in data analysis/simulation and/or detector design/test is required, while experience in semi-analytic calculations and/or numerical techniques would be appreciated for the theoretical position.

GSSI is committed to gender balance, inclusion and diversity. All applications will be given proper consideration, independent of ethnicity, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

Applications should include

  • A curriculum vitae, including the complete list of publications.
  • A research statement.
  • Three selected publications which will be evaluated individually. The PhD thesis can be included as one of the publications.
  • A valid ID document.
  • The names of up to two external referees that should send their letters through the same platform used for the application.

More information about this position can be found at

For all scientific enquiries about the positions, please contact Prof. Ivan De Mitri (ivan.demitri@gssi.it) and Prof. Pasquale Blasi (pasquale.blasi@gssi.it) for experimental and theoretical positions, respectively.
