The intern (2 x roles) reports into the Research Communications Manager based in our Beijing office. The intern will support the objectives around growing the IOP Publishing WeChat account as well as support broader marketing and publishing objectives within China.

The successful candidates will be required to create content based on scientific articles published in IOPP journals and interviews with leading researchers and journal board members. They will be required to translate original content from English – such as abstracts from scientific articles, news stories from our physics news website (Physics World), press releases or marketing campaigns – into Chinese to post on our WeChat account or share in our WeChat groups.

The interns will need to have a very good understanding of WeChat service accounts and a good understanding of physics and related topics. They will have experience in writing content that is suitable for WeChat to engage our existing followers and attract new followers to the account and demonstrate that they can write appealing headlines and content along with clear calls for action in a WeChat article.

Key job accountabilities include

  • Liaise with Research Communications Manager to prepare WeChat content weekly.
  • Support the update of IOP China website.
  • Support IOP online marketing activities, include webinars, virtual events, etc.
  • Support IOP offline events, include conferences, exhibitions, etc.
  • Support the copywriting of IOP Comms campaigns for China market.

 About you

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • Postgraduate/PhD student
  • At least 3 days/24 hours a week.
  • Fluent in English, both writing and speaking.
  • Good understanding in the field of physics, materials, environmental and other related subject areas.
  • Familiar with WeChat public account operation.
  • Ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles.
  • Ability of Photoshop or other graphic software is a plus.
  • Previous media operation experience is preferred but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in communicating with internal and external stakeholders and customers at many different levels.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a dedicated and collaborative team.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and time-management skills, with a drive for results.
  • Confident with MS Office365, internet and e-mail.
