The ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) Project is an integral part of the European Union plan to build the next generation of large research facilities. ELI Beamlines was opened in 2015 as a cutting-edge laser facility and currently is starting to offer open access beamtime to users. ELI Beamlines is delivering ultrashort, ultra-intense laser pulses lasting typically a few femtoseconds (12–150 fs) with peak powers ranging from 5 TW up to 10 PW. It will make available time synchronized laser beams over wide range intensities for wide range of interdisciplinary applications in physics, medicine, biology, material science etc. The high laser electric field intensities of the laser pulse is also used for generating secondary sources of e– and p+.

The Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences is a holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award. It is awarded by the European Commission to institutions which put significant effort into improving their human resources strategy and ensuring professional and ethical working conditions.

For the development, delivery and support of the laser control systems, we invite applications for a new group member: Designer of Control Systems.

The suitable candidate will be responsible for:

  • Creating system overview diagrams for control systems based on stakeholder inputs using the internal development processes and standard templates.
  • Drawing electrical wiring diagrams and P&I diagrams for control system installations.
  • Collaboration with the ELI team and external contractors on manufacturing, factory tests, installations, commissioning, verification and operations of control system systems.
  • Contributions to the development and maintenance of facility-wide standards for control system installations, especially regarding electrical installations and processes, documentation and hardware selection.
  • Support of the daily operation of the facility, response to system outages, and contributions to commissioning and maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • University degree in electrical engineering, control systems, automation, mechatronics or related.
  • 3+ years professional experience in the design and development of control systems, preferably for large-scale scientific or industrial applications.
  • Proficiency in English as a working language.
  • Experience in electrical design software, preferably Engineering Base.
  • Knowledge of common industrial automation hardware, such as PLCs, sensors, instrumentation, motion systems; as well as industrial interfaces.
  • Desirable is experience with some of the following:
    – basic process technologies/gases and fluids.
    – B&R or NI-based technologies.
    – control technologies in challenging environments, such as EMP, radiation or vacuum.
    – safety-critical applications.

We offer

  • The opportunity to participate in this unique scientific project.
  • Competitive and motivating salary.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Good working environment.
  • Career growth.
  • Lunch vouchers, pension contribution and five sick days.
