The Departments of Physics (www.phys.ethz.ch) and Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (www.ee.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich and the Paul Scherrer Institute (www.psi.ch) invite applications for a joint professorship in Experimental Quantum Technology.

The successful candidate is expected to pursue a strong research programme in experimental quantum technology. Emphasis will be on the application of quantum technologies for quantum computing and simulation, quantum communication and sensing, using solid-state, atomic or photonic systems. He or she will contribute to establishing a lasting quantum technology platform at the Paul Scherrer Institute with a strong connection to ETH Zurich, which cross-fertilizes basic science activities and technology development.

The professorship will be associated with one of the above-mentioned departments and will contribute to the teaching at ETH Zurich. The main research activities are centred at the Paul Scherrer Institute where access to first-class experimental facilities (Swiss Light Source and the Swiss Free Electron Laser as well as the high-power proton accelerator HIPA with its neutron and muon beamlines) is provided. A new state-of-the-art cleanroom for the production of electronic and optical devices, as well as a range of quantum technology laboratories are under construction. Teaching at ETH Zurich involves contributions to the physics and/or engineering curricula at the Bachelor (German or English) and Master’s levels (English).

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent to other top international universities.

Please apply online: www.facultyaffairs.ethz.ch.

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications, a statement of future research and teaching interests, a description of the three most important achievements, and the names of five references. The letter of application should be addressed to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr Joël Mesot. The closing date for applications is 10 January 2021. ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family friendly employer, strives to increase the number of women professors, and is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
