The Faculty of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science and the Institute of Physics
invite applications for an appointment at the level of
University Professor in Mathematical Physics
(Bes. Gr. W 3 LbesG)
starting at the next possible date.
We seek to appoint an internationally outstanding researcher in the field of Mathematical Physics, whose main focus is preferably in the area of scattering amplitudes and related fields (such as formal aspects of quantum field theories, supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories, etc.). The successful candidate is expected to complement and extend the existing research activities in theoretical high-energy physics in Mainz. A close collaboration with the theoretical groups in the Cluster of Excellence PRISMA+ – which explores the deep questions about the structure of matter, fundamental interactions and their relevance for the physics of the universe – is desired.
The appointment requires participation in teaching activities in the Faculty of Physics, the field of theoretical physics should be covered in its entire breadth. We expect that candidates show a strong commitment toward teaching and mentoring. Applicants must meet the general requirements according to public services law and Section 49 of the Higher Education Act of Rhineland-Palatinate (Hochschulgesetz Rheinland-Pfalz).
Besides a PhD in physics, the successful applicant should have a strong record of original research publications in leading scientific journals. The state of Rhineland-Palatinate and Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz consider the close mentoring of students to be important and thus expect a high rate of presence at the university
