Applications are invited for the post of RF Electronics Lead Engineer, in the Technical Services Group within the Department of Physics, which provides design and project management support for Physics research.
 
The post is a permanent position, subject to the successful completion of the standard probation period of one year.
 
The post will principally support the John Adams Institute of Accelerator Science projects but this will also extend to the wider context of the Department of Physics.
 
You will lead an RF programme of research and develop research questions within a discrete area of a wider research topic. For example, RF power electronics for Particle Accelerators. The Physics Department participates in a number of high profile ‘design and build’ experimental programmes involving other research institutions and laboratories around the United Kingdom and worldwide. You must be a recognized authority in RF engineering and therefore have a high level of technical and practical knowledge to direct and play a key and leading role in these programmes. You are required to work with academic researchers to explore and develop new project opportunities. The post is one of the most senior academic related posts in the Department.
 
Applicants should possess a degree in electronics engineering with a higher degree in an RF or closely related subject or have extensive equivalent experience. Applicants should have a strong background in project design and be fully conversant with RF CAD design and analysis software as well as have a sound knowledge of design methods including a good understanding of the RF behaviour of 3D structures.
 
Candidates are expected to demonstrate that they can lead and manage projects from feasibility and conceptual design through to manufacture, final assembly, testing and commissioning.
 
Previous experience in a scientific research environment will be an advantage.
 
The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach. This may include lecturing, small group teaching, and tutoring of undergraduates and graduate students.
