Description and main tasks of the project
The mass-polariton theory will be applied to plan experiments to discover the light-driven atomic mass density waves in solid and liquid dielectrics. We also develop the quantum-field theoretical extension of the mass-polariton theory starting from its classical field-theoretical formulation and more over work on photonic device concepts where the atomic mass density waves provide a platform for entirely new operation modes or a possibility to enhance performance characteristics.
To facilitate simulations of novel experiments, the optomechanical continuum dynamics model, a numerical implementation of the mass-polariton theory, will be generalized for multiphysics description of the atomic mass density waves and the accompanying sound and thermal waves propagating in combined solid-liquid structures. The research of coupled field-medium dynamics of light in solids and liquids provides an interesting possibility to develop new optofluidic applications. A related goal is to study optical-force-assisted diffusion of molecules in a medium for potential applications in biophotonic therapies.

Our experimental collaborators include the Photonics Group of Prof. Zhipei Sun at the Aalto University (https://www.aalto.fi/department-of-electronics-and-nanoengineering/photonics) and the Photonic Device Physics Laboratory of Prof. Kyunghwan Oh at the Yonsei University, Korea (http://allwise.yonsei.ac.kr/pdpl/).
The researcher is supposed to focus on the following topics:
· Optomechanical continuum dynamics simulations using the mass-polariton theory of light in novel solid-liquid structures.
· Development of the quantum-field theoretical extension of the mass-polariton theory of light.
· PhD in physics or related field.
· Good knowledge of the physics of light.
· Good experience in programming and carrying out extensive simulations of physical systems.
· Good knowledge of spoken and written English is necessary.
· Ability to work relatively independently as a member of an international photonics consortium including theoretical, experimental, and engineering groups.

Postdoctoral Researcher position will be filled for 2 years. The expecting starting salary is approximately 3700 €/month and follows the salary system of the Finnish universities. The annual workload of research and teaching staff at Aalto University is 1624 hours. The contract includes occupational healthcare. The position will be located at the Aalto University Otaniemi Campus in Espoo.
