POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE IN PARTICLE PHYSICS (MU3E EXPERIMENT) GRADE 7/8
£34,805 - £52,560 pa
The University of Liverpool Particle Physics group is seeking to recruit an individual to join our team working on the Mu3e experiment at PSI. Using a high intensity muon beam at PSI, Mu3e will search for the charged-lepton flavour violating decays of a positive muon to two positrons and an electron with sensitivity to a branching ratio of less than 10-16. In preparation for the experiment Liverpool is responsible for the assembly of the outer pixel layers of the ultra-low mass HV-CMOS pixel tracker for Mu3e.
The Liverpool Mu3e team currently consists of two academics, two staff researchers and three postgraduate students. You will join this team and contribute to the final stages of the assembly of the detector, its installation and commissioning and take a lead on the preparations for the operation and physics exploitation of the Mu3e experiment. This will include developing physics analyses for the experiment as well as the software tools to ensure the best possible measurement of the muon decays is obtained from the pixel tracker.
The normal place of work will be in Liverpool, with substantial travel to the PSI laboratory during installation commissioning and physics runs. You should have a PhD in Particle Physics. The post is initially available until 30/09/2022, but expected to be continued, subject to funding availability.
