Postdoctoral Research Associate B21 (Solution SAXS)
Didcot, Oxfordshire
£33,297 - £39,172 per annum (Discretionary range to £45,048)
Full time/Fixed term (3 years)
Ref: 10222

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) to join the high-throughput, solution small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS) beamline B21. B21 is optimised to measure high quality SAXS data from solution samples (often biological macromolecules) that are delivered to the beamline via a liquid handling platform, an HPLC chromatography system or loaded manually. The vigorous and competitive nature of structural biology drives constant development of the beamline towards measuring samples faster, at lower concentration and of larger sizes. We are also excited to have a growing number of users from the wider soft condensed matter research community measuring samples such as lipids, gels and polymers. This is creating further opportunities for innovation and research that crosses the boundaries between these two communities and challenges in handling non-solution or viscous samples in high-throughput.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to pursue their own research interests in the area of SAXS while taking a lead role in developing novel capabilities and applications at the B21 beamline including development of hardware, software and workflows. They will be part of a world-class facility working closely with internal staff and external scientists and will be able to communicate with teams of technicians, engineers and software support. A hands-on attitude and a flexible approach are very important to be able to cope with the dynamics of the task. You will be actively working at the beamline and in the support labs although some office work will be required at times.
