Ultrashort-pulse-laser materials-processing: Science & Application
Description of duties:
We are looking for a talented junior researcher to join our ultrafast laser materials processing program. We conduct research in the Department of Physics, and through collaborations elsewhere, using intense ultrafast laser systems delivering pulses in burst mode, with repetition-rates up to 4 GHz. The research emphasis is on interaction-science which gives the foundation for applications, and on developing state-of-the-art applications in laser materialsprocessing and laser surgery. The successful candidate will work within an existing research team (Dept. Physics, Dept. Medical Biophysics, Dept. ECE) designing and conducting experiments, modifying and applying computer simulation codes, and often supervising junior researchers on a day-to-day basis in the laboratory. The successful candidate will be expected to operate our three ultrafast CPA laser systems, have a strong interest in physics, apply strong analytic and critical skills, and work well in a team with group members of varying experience levels. Applicants should have good communication skills, and good ability to write publications in English.
CAD $50,000 - $55,000 / yr
PhD, DPhil or other doctorate degree, should have expertise and past experience in at least two of these areas: laser-plasma interaction; ultrashort-pulse laser science or engineering; laser-materials processing.

1.0 The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.
