Postdoc in Experimental Nanophotonics
The Nanophotonics Section at the Department of Photonics Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, performs fundamental and applied research in modern topics of nanophotonics. This includes fundamental light-matter interaction in nanostructures, nanolasers, quantum devices, and integrated photonics. The research is experimental as well as theoretical, and the Department has access to state-of-the-art nanofabrication facilities, optical laboratories as well as high-performance computing facilities. The present project is funded by the Villum Foundation through the NATEC Centre of Excellence, focusing on “Nanophotonics for TErabit Communications”.
The research field of the postdoc is experimental nanophotonics. Are you fascinated by ultrafast light-matter interaction in nanostructures? Do you like to use advanced laser techniques to look “behind the curtains” in order to understand the physics? Do you get triggered by new physical insights to think of new device possibilities? If so, you may just be the right person to join our team of experimentalists, nanofabrication experts and theoreticians. Our long-term mission is to contribute to the development of integrated photonic circuits by developing new technology and new device concepts. In the short-term, we are curiosity-driven, wanting to understand the fundamental physics that governs nanoscale devices, and to explore new device possibilities. In particular, we investigate the dynamics and nonlinear optics of structures where semiconductor quantum dots are embedded in photonic crystal line-defect waveguides and point-defect nanocavities. Such structures show a lot of promise for realizing nanolasers, ultrafast optical switches and devices for quantum technology.
Responsibilities and tasks
Your main task will be experimental investigations of active semiconductor nanostructures. Together with nanofabrication experts you will design new structures and devices and the experimental results will be interpreted in collaboration with theoreticians. A main goal is to perform measurements of the material and device dynamics on the 100-femtosecond timescale using optical pump-probe techniques.
Candidates should have a PhD degree in physics, photonics or electrical engineering and have a solid background in experimental photonics. Interest and familiarity with theoretical modelling is a further advantage.

Salary and terms of employment
The duration of the postdoc position is two years, starting as soon as possible, with possibility for extension. The appointment will be based on the AC collective agreement with the Danish Confederation. The work week is 37 hours, and the salary before taxes will be minimum DKK 34.080 per month excluding pension contribution, and DKK 39.900 per month including pension.
