IOP Teacher Training Scholarships
Helping you train to teach physics

Successful scholars will receive £28,000 tax-free funding and a package of exclusive support from the Institute of Physics.
We are offering 150 Teacher Training Scholarships to reward the very best graduates entering physics teacher training in September 2020.

1 Early career payments. Following qualification, eligible teachers will receive an additional £6,000 paid across the first four years of their careers on top of their salaries. For those working in high need areas, the payments will rise to £9,000.

Who we’re looking for

We will award scholarships to the top 150 applicants who impress us with their knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for both physics and teaching. You will need an excellent academic record, with a first or 2:1 degree, master’s degree, PhD, or recognised equivalent. If you have a 2:2 degree, we will consider your application if you can show significant relevant experience. To be an IOP Scholar, you must secure a place on a non-salaried teacher training course leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England by September 2020

How you can apply

Before applying for a scholarship, please read our eligibility criteria thoroughly. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can proceed to complete the online application form at iop.org/scholarships.

If your online application is successful you will be invited to attend an assessment day in London. At the assessment day you will sit a written test to assess your subject knowledge, and take part in a group discussion and panel interview to assess your communication skills.

We will notify you shortly after the assessment day of the outcome of your assessment.
