We have a number of fully funded 4-year PhD studentships offered in the area of Quantum Engineering, supported by the Quantum Engineering Centre for Doctoral Training (QE-CDT) at the University of Bristol.
The Quantum Engineering Centre for Doctoral Training (QE-CDT) offers exceptional graduates a four-year doctoral training programme, underpinned by world-class research and entrepreneurial expertise. This doctoral training centre, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and now going into its second phase, is a collaboration between the faculties of Science and Engineering at the University of Bristol. Based in the £12M Nanoscience building, the Centre is a key component of the University’s specialist research institute focusing on quantum information sciencea and technology. The QE-CDT’s 4 year programme encompasses the entire spectrum of theoretical understanding and the practical application of quantum physics. Students are able to choose their preferred area of research after successfully completing Year 1 and will have the choice to work with supervisors from across the university and the wider UK Quantum Technologies Network.
Typical projects in the QE-CDT will involve the following areas of research:
● Quantum computing and simulation
● Quantum communications
● Quantum sensing and metrology
● Underpinning quantum technologies

Candidate requirements: We seek highly motivated people who have recently completed their degree-level studies or are considering a change of career into research. The ideal candidate must show enthusiasm to achieve impact in the “quantum 2.0” arena with an aptitude for conceptual thinking and problem solving. Candidates must achieve a minimum degree classification of 2.1 (or equivalent) for entry onto the programme. Funding: The studentships are fully funded for UK and EU students and cover tuition fees and an annual stipend at RCUK rates. There is limited funding available for International students.
