About the role:

As an Editor, you will focus on ensuring the provision of an efficient peer review process across a portfolio of journals. Reporting to the Managing Editor (based in Bristol, UK), you’ll play an important role in improving service quality, supporting and supervising the team, and achieving the goals for the group. In collaboration with the Journals Development team you will support initiatives aimed at improving the status of our journals, capturing high quality content and increasing market share through knowledge of the subject area and community engagement.

You’ll demonstrate expertise in the peer review process including reviewer selection, decision making on articles, efficient handling of papers and mentoring team members to ensure processing targets are met. You will be expected to contribute to, and lead on, continuous improvement initiatives to increase the efficiency and quality of our service.

Working collaboratively with colleagues and developing effective relationships with external stakeholders, you’ll take a proactive approach to making the most of your network of scientific contacts, and identifying promotional opportunities to improve journal visibility through conference attendance and publishing workshops. You will have strong communication and organisational skills combined with commercial awareness and understanding of what it takes to make a journal attractive to its community, helping to make it first choice for authors and readers.

Please note that this is a full-time, in-house position.

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Proficiency in English and Chinese
  • A degree or PhD in a relevant scientific subject
  • STM Publishing experience
  • Expert knowledge of peer review processes and awareness of COPE guidelines
  • Ability to take responsibility, assess complex situations, and work autonomously, but also as part of a team, motivating others
  • Excellent communication and networking skills, with the ability to build strong relationships
