You will play a major role in the operation and further development of the MASSIF-3 (ID30A-3) beamline as well as in the other activities of the group.
The ESRF provides access to state-of-the art facilities for diffraction, solution scattering and cryo-electron microscopy experiments in Structural Biology. These include 6 beamlines dedicated to macromolecular crystallography (MX), many of which will be upgraded and/or refurbished as part of the ESRF Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS) project.
As a Beamline Scientist, your missions are the following:
- Manage the day-to-day operation and the scientific development of the ESRF's MASSIF-3 beamline, helping to develop of instrumentation, software and methods that will be important for all of the Structural Biology Group's MX facilities at a post-EBS ESRF.
- Support external user research by acting as Local Contact on MASSIF-3 and on the ESRF's other MX beamlines.
- Develop scientific research projects based on the use of MX in Structural Biology. Here you should be able to interact with, and contribute to, programmes and developments (e.g. methodologies for synchrotron serial crystallography and multi-crystal data collection; room-temperature time-resolved MX, in crystallo optical spectroscopy) on-going in the Structural Biology Group.

- PhD in Structural or Molecular Biology or a related subject and several years of postdoctoral experience in synchrotron-based Structural Biology
- Demonstrable experience in the development of software and/or instrumentation for synchrotron-based Structural Biology
- A strong scientific research profile
- The ability to interact with multi-disciplinary staff and facility users
- Good time management skills and ability to prioritize
- Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)
