Join our team of professional analysts who are responsible for the track reconstruction and analysis of acoustic signatures produced by surface ships, submarines and aircraft, and work on the identification of sources of noise and assessment of acoustic vulnerabilities. You’ll also be maintaining data bases of the acoustic signature and producing analytical reports.

We are looking for someone who has:
• The aptitude to identify opportunities where analytical output can be used to help inform decisions in the research domain
• The ability to react at short notice and deliver critical outputs within tight timeframes.

In this role you will:
• Provide timely, impartial, evidence-based advice to customers to enable them to make informed decisions representing “best value” and a maximum return on investment.
• Conduct in-depth acoustic analysis of targeted signature data and present precise results in written form to agreed deadlines. This will provide the weight of evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness of front line platforms and sensors in the operational environment and provide lessons learned for inclusion in future doctrine.
• Responsible for delivering agreed work packages, often within challenging time frames, to support Maritime operational capabilities.
• Conduct track reconstruction to support analysis output.
• Data base the results of analysis.
• Support acoustic analysis, modelling solutions and studies by collating and exploiting acoustic datasets.
• Develop an understanding of related capabilities within other parts of Dstl, other government agencies and third party external providers.

Job Dimensions:
This role does not require direct line management of employees or hold any budgetary responsibilities.
You will have opportunities to engage with industry or academia on sonar related subjects as well as attending conferences in the UK and sometimes overseas.

Training and Development:
Opportunities are available to undertake internal and external training to support your career development and aspirations.
On the job training will be provided to give you the competence to undertake your work using numerous bespoke replay and analysis systems.

Person specification

At sea experience in the deployment and operation of acoustic sensors.
A thorough knowledge of acoustic signatures.
Ability to conduct in-depth acoustic analysis.
Front line Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operational experience.
Ability to work in a team base environment.
