We are looking for an Editor to join us on a fixed term basis for six months. This is an excellent opportunity to take the next step in your publishing career, using your enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to contribute to the success and growth of our journals.
About the role:
As a full-time in-house Editor, you will be responsible for managing an efficient peer review process across a portfolio of journals. Reporting to the Managing Editor, you’ll play an important role in improving service quality, supporting and supervising a team of in-house Associate Editors and Editorial Assistants, and achieving the goals for the group. In collaboration with Publishers you will support initiatives aimed at improving the status of our journals and increasing market share.
You’ll demonstrate expertise in managing the peer review process including reviewer selection, decision making on articles, efficient handling of manuscripts and mentoring team members to ensure processing targets are met. You will be expected to contribute to, and lead on, continuous improvement initiatives to increase the efficiency and quality of our service.
Working collaboratively with colleagues and developing effective relationships with external stakeholders, you’ll need to identify promotional opportunities to improve journal visibility. You will have strong communication and organisational skills combined with commercial awareness and understanding of what it takes to make a journal attractive to its community, helping to make it first choice for authors and readers.
Applicants should demonstrate:
- A degree or PhD in a relevant scientific subject
- Expert knowledge of peer review processes, ethics and guidelines for the journal and for IOP Publishing
- Ability to take responsibility, assess complex situations, and work autonomously, but also as part of a team, motivating others
- Excellent communication and networking skills, with the ability to build strong relationships
