The Managing Editor manages, motivates and develops a large team to deliver a fair, inclusive and efficient peer review service across a portfolio of journals. The role is responsible for resourcing, for managing the peer review process and for driving the requirements of IOPP’s workflows to meet business needs. The Managing Editor helps deliver the peer review strategy, sponsoring cross-departmental projects and initiatives. They also manage peer review on a small number of titles within the portfolio.

Key job accountabilities include

  • Building and managing, motivating and developing a large peer review portfolio team.
  • Taking overall responsibility for the portfolio to deliver a fair, inclusive and efficient peer review process that meets customer requirements.
  • Maintaining a focus on continuous improvement for peer review.
  • Managing peer review on a small number of titles within the portfolio.

About you

Successful applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • A degree or PHD.
  • Experience of managing or supervizing others, with the ability to build, develop and motivate individuals and large teams.
  • Significant experience in STM publishing, with in-depth understanding and knowledge of peer-review processes, systems and best practice.
  • Effective prioritisation, organization and time management skills.
  • Expertise in managing and allocating resources, and a drive for results to meet KPIs.
  • Strong communication skills.
