There is exciting opportunity to join a high-performing team of engineers, scientists and data analysts, including subject matter experts, in delivering critical test and evaluation in the field of acoustics.

As an integral member of the Acoustic Signature Analysis team, with roles available in both Glasgow and Dorset, you will be involved with the measurement, interpretation, analysis and technical reporting of underwater radiated noise signatures.

Role responsibilities

  • Function as an Acoustic Signature Analyst providing professional advice and guidance to customers on acoustic related issues/defects.
  • Provide technical leadership for acoustic signature and investment related projects, and technical assistance to large scale, high complexity projects with which you are tasked.
  • Continually develop novel/improve current approaches to conducting analysis and reporting of acoustic signatures.
  • Provide support and mentoring to junior team members.
  • Interface to a high standard with other teams within QinetiQ, RN, MoD and other companies.
  • Demonstrate professional integrity at all times.

Required knowledge, experience and skills

  • Undergraduate degree in an engineering, science or related technical subject, or other qualification (HNC, HND or NVQ) with five years relevant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of: analysis, measurement and modelling; acoustics and/or underwater acoustics; digital signal processing skills; and have the ability to present eloquently in front of customers, leading meetings/briefings as required.
  • Aptitude and desire to conduct measurements, from both onboard and shoreside locations, on naval ships and submarines.
  • Knowledge and experience of marine engineering systems and awareness of machine and structural dynamics.
  • Skilled in the use of scientific computing programmes, such as MATLAB and LabVIEW.
