Job advert description

The Institute of Physics Publishing is embarking on an exciting journey to transform its subscription sales systems and processes with a goal to deliver robust and future proofed solutions that can lead the business into the next phase of its dynamic development.

A multi-million pound investment over several years will see us transform our front and back office CRM, opportunity management, subscription order, electronic access and billing systems – replacing our current complex architecture with a flexible solution on the Salesforce platform.

We are looking for a talented dynamic product owner/manager to help lead us on this journey as Sales and Marketing Product Owner. Working collaboratively as part of a wider enterprise wide programme they will be responsible for defining the vision, and facilitating the implementation, of customer focussed, effective processes covering the lead to order half of the overall lead to cash journey.

This will include responsibility for sales capabilities and workflows covering lead management, opportunity management, quote to order, customer account and customer contact management.

Once the initial deliveries of the programme are achieved, the Product Owner will own and champion a roadmap of continuous improvement and innovation, working closely with sales and marketing colleagues, and tech development teams to ensure the ongoing enhancement of our capability to service evolving customer needs.

The role will be an important voice in the wider product manager/owner community within IOP Publishing. Product owners at IOP Publishing play a key role in setting the agenda for change and improvement in their product areas.

The Product Owner’s sole focus is on managing and developing their product area. They represent the voice of the customer within IOP and are responsible for ensuring the final product delivers customer value balanced against stakeholder requirements and budget.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to take on a crucial role which places them at the heart of IOP Publishing’s transformational journey and become a key contributor to the continued success of our thriving business.

The role is Bristol-based with flexible home-working options.

Ideally bringing a deep understanding of sales and marketing activities as well as experience of how to get the best from the Salesforce platform. A knowledge of sales activities in the publishing industry, or a different industry operating on a subscription model would be a distinct advantage.

You will need the capability to engage effectively with stakeholders both internally and externally to build a strategic perspective and the confidence and gravitas to operate at the highest level in the organization, while also being able to rally the troops when development and change delivery is required.

Desirable skills and experience include:

  • Experience as an agile product owner or other relevant role in the Salesforce environment.
  • Demonstrable understanding of sales and marketing activities, particularly in a subscription-based business, and ideally publishing.
  • Demonstrable data-driven approach to decision making, utilizing validated customer feedback and insights as well as business metrics to make decisions.
  • Business analysis skills, including mapping process workflows, system diagrams, system and process visualizations.
  • Experience of agile working methods and continuous improvement and ideally, Lean methodology.

The role is Bristol-based with flexible home-working options.
