The ESRF is a multinational research institute, situated in Grenoble, France and financed by 21 countries mostly European. It operates a powerful synchrotron X-ray source with some 30 beamlines (instruments) covering a wide range of scientific research in fields such as biology and medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, materials and surface science, and physics. The ESRF employs about 600 staff and is organized as a French société civile.
Within the Experiments Division, the X-ray Imaging group is now seeking to recruit a:
Beamline Scientist (m/f) for the Nano-Imaging Beamline ID16A
F U N C T I O N
You will play a major role in the running and further development of the ID16A Nano-Imaging beamline. This new beamline, part of the ESRF Upgrade Project NINA, will provide cutting-edge nanofocused beams for analytical imaging. It aims at quantitative 3D characterization of the morphology and the elemental composition of specimens in their native state through the combination of coherent imaging techniques (magnified holotomography, near-field and far-field ptychography) and X-ray fluorescence analysis. The research programme focuses on three main areas: sub-cellular chemical imaging for biomedical applications, nanotomography of biomaterials and biofilms, and research on advanced materials for microtechnology and energy management.
Within this framework, you will participate in the instrumental developments, assist users in their experiments and you will develop an original research programme exploiting the unique X-ray fluorescence or ptychographic imaging capabilities of the new beamline.

You should hold a PhD and several years of postdoctoral experience in physics, materials science, biology or biophysics. A strong background in X-ray Fluorescence Microscopy or Ptychographic Imaging is required.
The following qualities are essential:
- good time management skills and ability to prioritize
- ability to interact with staff and facility users at all levels
- ability to work as part of an international and multi-disciplinary team.
