Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences
School of Physics and Astronomy
Lecturer in Theoretical Physics
The School of Physics and Astronomy is a world-class research environment that excels in teaching, and is seeking to appoint an exceptional academic candidate in the area of Theoretical Physics to strengthen the Theoretical Physics Group and other already ongoing research activities within the School. Currently, we focus our research efforts on areas including Quantum Information Science, Biophysics and Bionanophysics, Condensed Matter Physics, Molecular and Nanoscale Physics, and Soft Matter Physics. Success in all of these areas requires a deeper theoretical understanding of physical systems and close collaborations with experimental groups, whenever appropriate.
You will have a PhD in Theoretical Physics, an excellent research track record in Theoretical Physics, and a strong commitment to teaching in a research environment. We are looking for candidates who can complement or strengthen already existing theoretical and/or experimental activities in our School of Physics and Astronomy. Integration into the Theoretical Physics Group at Leeds as well as already existing connections with other groups will support you in your efforts to build an independent and highly successful research activity.
The University of Leeds’ commitment to women in science has been recognised with a national accolade, receiving the Athena SWAN Bronze Award, and the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences holds the Athena SWAN Silver Award in recognition of our success in recruiting, retaining and developing/promoting women in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET). We are proud of our commitment to equality and inclusiveness, and offer generous terms and conditions of employment, a wide range of benefits, services, facilities and family friendly policies. Full details are available on the Human Resources web pages accessible at www.leeds.ac.uk/hr/index.htm. Applications from women, who are currently under-represented in this area, will be particularly welcome; however, the final recruitment decision will be based solely on merit.
