WALL is a Marie Curie initial training network of the European Community on the topic of domain walls in nanoscale magnetic structures, which will provide the next generation of researchers in this area of advanced technology.
Within this international doctoral program, a PhD position in the R&D department of Singulus Technologies AG is immediately available in the field advanced materials and material depositon for nanoscale spintronic devices.
The spin current generation by spin injection and the spin transport are currently investigated for low power devices. In particular, such spin currents can be used to manipulate magnetization very efficiently and for instance engineer the displacement of magnetic domain walls.

The PhD student will optimize the materials for advanced multilayer stacks. The development of advanced sputter deposition processes for smooth materials with tailored properties will be carried out on state of the art production equipment. Additionally magnetoresistive elements for reading and writing will be developed. The position is based at Singulus Technologies in very a close collaboration with the university partner Department of Physics, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Germany).
During the PhD/Postdoctoral/Master stay, the student will have the opportunity to collaborate with our partner institutions and others from EU networks and part of the stay can be carried out at a partner institution.
Diploma, Master or equivalent in physics, electrical engineering, materials sciences, etc.
Knowledge in thin film deposition technology and condensed matter, in particular magnetism would be advantageous.
